UNR kompletterar med engelska

Det omtalade uttalandet om att UNR använder engelska som arbetsspråk. Man ju säga som så att det är egentligen bara att konstatera faktum - för så har nog skett till en del redan en längre tid. Då vi inte har tolkning utöver sessionen så måste vi ta oss till något lingua franca som oftast är engelska. Det betyder inte att det nordsiak urholkas, tvärtom. Det skapar nog åtminstone bland oss som nu är aktiva en god sammanhållning, ibland på danska, ibland finska, ibland engelska och ibland blandning av allting. Man kan inte utesluta någon bara för att den inte fått undersvisning i skolan i det språket till den grad att man kan föra en politisk diskussion. För poltiik på ettt främmade språk är itne alldeles enkelt och kräver att man anpassar sig. Vi gör det genom att använda engelska då när det behövs. Dock så utgår vi ifrån de nordiska språken, i motsats till vad Hesari skrivit....

The Nordic cooperation should be open for every single Nordic individual. It shall by no means be an exclusive club for Scandinavian speakers. Language is a mean of communication, not a goal in it self. If language leads to exclusion, the language has to change.

Therefore, the presidium of the Nordic Youth Council, UNR, has on its meeting in Stavanger, Norway, agreed that inclusion is prioritized before language, and hence English will be used when needed in the work of UNR since UNR cannot afford interpretation on all meetings.

We believe that there is more to the Nordic cooperation than language. Inclusion has to be the word in focus, and as it is now language barriers are creating walls and excluding Nordics, whether one is willing to acknowledge it or not. We need to accept the fact that the knowledge of Scandinavian languages of the coming generations is constantly declining and that the globalized world has diversified the Nordic societies, hence one can no longer take for granted that all Nordics can understand and communicate in Scandinavian.

UNR also wants to cast the light on the need for better education in Nordic history and Nordic societies. In order to foster Nordic prosperity one needs to strengthen the Nordic identity and common understanding. In an ever changing world young people need to have roots.
